The selection of tales is nice, but the retellings are overly wordy and heavily infused with the author s style and character interpretations, which detracts and distracts from the simplicity and essential interest of the tales themselves It was also frustrating to not be given clear sources for many of the tales Folk tales are distinct from literary inventions they have cultural origins and often contain important socio cultural information about the people who first told them These roots should be better respected and acknowledged. Such a beautiful book The illustrations were soft and pretty, went along wonderfully with the stories.
