The Amazing Mind of Alice Makin

The Amazing Mind of Alice MakinI listened to the audiobook and wonder if I would have enjoyed reading the actual book , as there were some lovely flashes of poetic language Perhaps it was just the reader s style that made the whole thing feel like a very average children s book, but it s not one I would recommend. This is, I think, a children s book Things seem to happen but we re not sure if it s in the protagonist s mind or real life sometimes It was OK Not that good There was also another storyline in it which was good I think could have been developed and this second storyline could have been extended and sort of linked with the original one Twelve Year Old Alice Is Growing Up In A Grey World Of Old Bombsites, In Post War London It S A Tough Life Made Harder By Her Difficult Step Dad Alice S Escape Is Her Imagination, Which Always Brightens Her Day But When A New Boy Called Reggie Starts School, Her Mind Begins Playing Tricks On Her She Seems Oddly Drawn To Him And Whenever They Are Together The World Becomes A Excting And Colourful Place A Place Where Imagination Appears To Become Real Where A Bubble Gum Machine Can Suddenly Explode Into A Thousand Coloured Balls, A Handful Of Fireworks Become The Greaest Show Ever, And A Row On The Lake Becomes A Terrifying Adventure It Seems That Together, They Can Do Extraordinary Things, But What Is Their Story, And How Will It End Great book Even tho this is of a children s book I enjoyed it immensely. Kids were very likable for me Alice is a daydreamer this, I can relate and also very smart, strong and snarky Both Reggie and Norman were very endearing Also, I liked how the final conflict was part psychological and resolved within Alice s head, which links with the earlier parts of the book very nicely.Quickly skimmed through the story, but will pick it up every now and then in the future for revisits More of a children s book There was a bit of a plot twist I enjoyed the book but wouldn t read again. it took me a while to get through this book and it didn t pay off too well the beginning felt like it was going to have an amazing ending but then felt like the writer changed his mind at the last minute I had fun reading the book, though at some times it got boring for me The language devices and writing it great But I did not like the ending I still have so many questions about mind touching Along with many other things This book needs a sequel I read this book while I was on holiday in Bulgaria It was a good read I wouldn t read it again though I did pass this around my friends and they enjoyed it It s slightly childish but it is good I recommend it as a holiday read. this book is in our library very well written highly recommend it
