Let me just get this out there Anything by Karin Bishop is a worthwhile read That said, I loved this one for its easy breezy feel Often the forcing function the incident that compels one of Ms Bishop s heroines to examine their gender critically, and to ultimately transition into the woman they always were can be a bit contrived In this case, it s concert tickets but once one gets past that, the novel is refreshing in a way that a shaved ice treat is on a hot summer day.Read this one for the joys of being a part of a trio of wonderful and supportive girls Seeing Lauren emerge is wonderful to experience, and having the support of her mother is something that we trans people all wish for ourselves and our sisters and brothers.Karin s writing is s always scintillating and crisp, and the way she always manages to cleverly integrate metaphors into the conversations that allow us to understand ourselves or o explain ourselves to others is reason enough to pick up a Karin Bishop title but that s just a side benefit In addition, there are scenarios that tech us lessons in how to handle middle school bullying I wish I had thought of when I as Lauren s age.If you enjoy stories of transition, of becoming Of relishing and rejoicing in discovering the person deep inside If you love strong self confident heroines, you ll love Lauren,Mandy, and the people who inhabit this lovely, mostly happy story.Thank you for another terrific story, Karen

Outstanding Transgender Novel With a TwistIn Chris who emerges as Lauren , Mandy and Jessica Jess , Karen Bishop has created three strong teenage female characters who have a knack for defusing trouble.Chris is in middle school, does not fit in with the other boys, and is frequently targeted by the school bullies As a result, he tries to be as invisible as possible, except around his one friend, Mandy One afternoon, after discovering that one of the girls she was planning on attending an upcoming boy band concert with wouldn t be able to go So she hatches a wild idea of having Chris dress as a girl for the evening so the girl s ticket won t go to waste Chris reluctantly goes along with the idea at first. This reveals something hidden inside Chris, namely that he may be transgender As events unfold, Chris learns that genetically he is female than male because of his XXY genotype.Given the well developed characters and delightful humor interwoven into the plot, this is a very enjoyable read.

Thoroughly enjoyable story with characters who are likeable It has a lot in common with several of Karin s other stories, but as they are ones that I liked it is a good thing.
