Let me start by saying this is the first book I have read by Cheri Champagne I have a penchant for historical romances, but I get bored by the usual rake storylines This was a refreshing change One, I thoroughly enjoyed I truly felt engaged by the character of Mr Brown and I loved Cheri Champagne s well crafted character who was intelligent and passionate The Marquess of Withington was also a strong formidable character and a hottie, even if he was a little slow to pursue his love I admire any author who pushes the boundaries and tries something different, and Cheri Champagne creates a wonderful and well rounded character who is definitely not your average gentlewoman Since early girlhood, Lady Katherine has kept a secret one that could ruin her and embarrass her family, but it is part of who she is As such Kat, is compelled to continue her passion away from the prying eyes of the haute ton and her family. When Lady Katherine acquires the identity of Mr Brown and answers the plea of an angry Marquess of Withington, who is haunted by his injuries from the war both get the shocks of their lives as both passion and chaos ensue A thoroughly good read Delightful story of love, laughter, a bit of history and a excellent way to spend your free time Wish I could get her next book, as I enjoyed this one so much Imagine how difficult it was to portray a man in the time of being a woman brought one lacing up our dresses with fabric than we today would use on a entire wardrobe Truthfully it was also nice not to spend 30 pages to describe making love as we see so much today She gives us enough for our imaginations to take it from her words A delightful way to spend a few hours. We have a man who is has war wounds and a woman who can not tell l him who she really is Lady Katherine is forced to hunt for a husband she has a secret and owns her own dress shop The servants for the Marquess see through Kat s story and what she is up to He feels betrayed as he learns of who she is and orders her to leave but she can t for the weather Here is where their hearts and love start. It is a little drawn out in places but the author does a great job of drawing the reader into historical times I would read another book by this author.I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book I received this book from the author and the Connecting Readers and Writers group in exchange for a honest review. My Thoughts This had the makings of a great beauty and the beast romance, but it fell short It seemed to be missing something There was no spark The Heroine She made some dumb decisions After she is compromised by the hero, she returns to London At a ball, they meet again and he publically calls her a whore So he comes by and apologizes Seemingly, all is forgiven Later on in the story, she gets engaged to a decent man and instead of honoring that she fools around with the hero The Story Lady Katherine Mason the heroine is embarking on an adventure before she is forced to husband hunt For Years, she has secretly owned under a different name Mr Brown a dress shop and tailor shop She is going to create a wardrobe for Barrick Gray, Marquess of Withington She arrives in Scotland and settles in The housekeeper and servants see through her ruse right away Barrick does not see that she is a woman and strikes up a friendship with Mr Brown Eventually, he finds out and he feels deceived He orders her to leave, but she can t for a few days because of the weather One evening, Barrick is in the throws of a nightmare Katherine goes to wake him up and one thing leads to another and they have sex Katherine leaves early the next morning Katherine settles back into her life in London At a ball, they meet again Barrick publically humiliates her.The rest of the book deals with their eventual HEA.Overall, an OK read for me.
