When towns people start avoiding Catorina Baxter she knows who is behind the rumors however, she is not prepared for the lengths he will go to to discredit her and possible cost her her life Who knew the word no would have such devastating effects Catorina s only hope is convincing the Laird of Clan Gunn of her innocence and with a champion in the Laird s son she may save her life but will she lose her heart Bhaltair admires the lovely lass who stumbled into him in the market so imagine his surprise when she s accused of witchcraft and by none other than his uncle The Laird, his father, commands the lass remain in the castle under his protection until the matter is settled which Bhaltair uses to get to know her and lose a little of his heart Believing in her innocence can he convince his father or will his uncle take from him the one girl he has fallen for I enjoyed this sweet tale by Fiona McKellar and would suggest it to others The only thing keeping me from giving it a five 5 star rating there were a couple of things left unresolved That being said it will NOT keep me from reading by this new author I HIGHLY look forward to her next book I did receive an ARC of this book The choice to read and review it was mine. A quick read that gave me a task of witchcraft in the highlands I was not sure when I began this read but then I began to adapt to the strange male names and the lass Catriona I really liked her This would be my first highland book were the male did not win me over first I enjoyed the writing but was not overly captivate by the whole. Very nice sweet story. This is the first book I read written by Fiona McKellar It s a quick read of a sweet no sex love story Since novellas are short, there is never enough time for deep character development but I still enjoyed the book very much and will read books written by this author. Publisher s Description As if the rumors weren t bad enough, now she s been publicly accused of witchcraft And it doesn t help either that the accusations came from none other than the Laird s own brother.Catriona Baxter is a commonplace Highland lass who s just trying to mind her own business, but that doesn t stop the Laird s brother, Aodh, from making plenty of advances upon her After rejecting him though, Catriona finds her life threatened when Aodh publicly accuses her of being a witch. To resolve the matter, the Laird orders Catriona to come live on his estate while a proper investigation is carried out The Laird s brother might want her dead, but his son, Bhaltair, has other plans Seizing every opportunity Bhaltair pursues her endlessly Sparks fly, but will his son s love for her be enough to convince the Laird she should be saved from being burned at the stake My Thoughts This is the debut novella by this new author I have read this and her second book I admit that I read book number two first This first book is actually the better developed and written of the two. Both books are short sweet reads that are suitable for a younger reading audience or those who prefer sweet romance.I would have liked even story and character development in both books There was an abruptness to the resolution of the story but I find this is often the case with short stories and novellas.I would be interested in a full length novel written by this budding new author to see if it entails a better developed story.I would give this short book 3.25 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization As stated it is a sweet read suitable for a younger audience.I read and voluntarily reviewed a complimentary digital copy of this title. This in no way affected my opinion of this title. I recieved this advance Ebook in exchange for my honest review I liked this short story,it was a fun read and the characters were very likeable,at least most of them I do wish it was a tad longer so I could read into the characters but for a short story it turned out beautiful Looking forward to reading most from this author I received a free book to review I am glad it was free I really tried to give it a chance but after pushing to 50% I could not read any The characters were flat cookie cutter, the bad guy was so obvious and there really was no mystery or conflict I knew exactly what was going to happen Even the romance was boring and I like a good clean slow moving romance This was just not well written and even had some modern phrases in it, and if I saw the word Bedding one time Goodness, rape and sex were talked about often. I got this debut novella by Fiona McKellar for free I wasn t sure what to expect as I had never read anything by her I just knew that it is set in what my favorite places in the world Scotland and it was a historical romance The work is a very sweet romance but not overly sappy I liked the premise of the false accusations made accusing the young heroine of adultery and witchcraft I just didn t like that it was only dealt with on the surface, and without much angst You never really felt the heroine was ever in any harm of being found guilty And the Laird s brother was painted as a villain but even that was not convincing I loved the romance that played out as the son defended the young girl and the small adventures they went on together The young couple were also teenagers and there was never even any sexual tension or tension of any kind that came about in their short relationship The biggest drawback is everything just happens way too quickly insta love, insta marriage, insta resolution, etc The novella is not bad just too underdeveloped for me It is just on the verge of being great but just missed the mark.
Is a well-known author, some of his books are a fascination for readers like in the The Lairds Son book, this is one of the most wanted Fiona McKellar author readers around the world.
