Title The new net goes fishingAuthor Witi IhimaeraType of text Short storyFrom reading this book I learned about Maori people in modern New Zealand Most of the stories in the book were based on problem within Maori society Because, the stories were short but detailed, I could fully understand the story I liked some of the stories but not all of them because some stories are not touching and interesting.I would recommend this book because you get to know about modern Maori in New Zealand I also think it is a part of learning the culture of New Zealand.

By far my favorite story is the one where an old woman encounters an escalator for the first time Entertaining and surprisingly touching example of the dichotomy between tradition and the future.

A really nice collection of short stories about being Maori in Aotearoa I very much liked a story that revolved around a landlord that did not want to have Maori tenants He rents to a married couple the couple is biracial, Maori and Pakeha because one of the pair is white he seems fine to rent to this couple but doesn t want any other Maori Subtle racial issues make for unique stories despite being disturbing A quick read, but very good
